Dundee is all set to host the 2024 World Bronchiectasis Congress, following in the footsteps of Hanover, Milan, Washington, Barcelona (that became a virtual edition), Prague and New York. And it was the Dundee City Region Convention Bureau (DCRCB) that event organisers, the Lena Group, turned to when completing the original feasibility study on the city.

Now in its sixth year, the World Bronchiectasis Congress brings together around 450 leading experts on respiratory medicine worldwide.  The three-day congress focuses on the lung condition bronchiectasis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, connecting a multi-discipline global community of scientists and researchers to share research and innovation.

Working with the congress organisers, DCRCB was able to showcase why Dundee was the ideal destination for the 7th annual World Bronchiectasis Congress to be held on 4-6 July 2024. From accessibility and transport routes to world-class venues, hotel accommodation and hospitality, Dundee ticked all the boxes.  Furthermore, Dundee, specifically Ninewells Hospital, is where cutting-edge biotech and clinical studies are performed, providing a great reason to bring the World there.

DCRCB also worked closely with the University of Dundee to ensure the venue hit the organiser’s brief.

With Dundee finally confirmed as the host destination last October, DCRCB is now working to support the organisers as they prepare to bring the 7th World Bronchiectasis Congress to the city in 2024.

The chairman of the 7th World Bronchiectasis Congress, Prof. James Chalmers, is very excited to host the congress in Dundee.  “Let’s unite the world again in Dundee in 2024 to show the fantastic science going on worldwide in Bronchiectasis.”

DCRCB’s business events manager, Karen Tocher, said the successful bid to host the congress was a real feather in Dundee’s cap.

“The city was up against stiff competition from other world-class destinations, as well as following in the footsteps of the previous conference cities, which have global reputations.  But Dundee is ideally placed to take on the baton for the 7th World Bronchiectasis Congress and deliver an event that exceeds expectations.”
