Tourism

Dundee is emerging as one of the most vibrant cities in the country and is the UK's first UNESCO City of Design. The city combines the best of contemporary culture, inspiring modern architecture and a rich historical heritage.

Dundee's ongoing regeneration continues with the award-winning transformation of Dundee Waterfront, the third largest regeneration project in the UK, spanning 240 hectares of land stretching 8km along the River Tay. The Central Waterfront is dominated by the prestigious V&A Dundee - the only design museum in the UK outside London - which opened in September 2018.

Dundee is an ideal short break  destination and touring base for anyone looking to explore the region with access to golf at St Andrews and Carnoustie within a 20 minute drive time;  and walking or ski-ing in the Angus Glens or Perthshire within a 45 minute drive. For the leisure or business visitor, Dundee offers an eclectic mix of accommodation from hostels to contemporary hotels, bars and restaurants and unique venues to five star visitor attractions. Dundee is also working towards becoming a World Host Destination - with over 1,500 people trained in the sector.

Dundee offers an escape for Londoners, with a direct 1 hour flight between the city airport. Edinburgh Airport is just over an hour away and regular rail services connect Dundee to the rest of the UK by rail.

Leisure Tourism is currently worth £155m (looking to grow this to £185m by 2020) and the city is working in partnership with key agencies such as Scottish EnterpriseVisit Scotland and the tourism sector to deliver the Dundee Tourism Strategy. The Dundee & Angus Convention Bureau exists to promote the region to Business Tourism, which is currently worth £60m to Dundee.
